Kitchen Team member - Job Description

The Kitchen team member is responsible for preparing our food products. Their primary duty is to assist the Kitchen Manager in the day-to-day operations of the kitchen including preparing cooking ingredients, packaging food products for retail, cleaning up the cooking area, and ensuring proper storage of the ingredients all in accordance with Food Authority guidelines and the high standards of our business.


Main duties include:

Food preparation activities, such as cleaning, cutting, chopping, grating and peeling food ingredients

Packaging of food products for retail including portioning, garnishing, sealing, taping, dating and labelling.

Cleaning and sanitizing the food preparation areas.

Washing, disinfecting and properly storing cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment.

Weighing and storing ingredients and food supplies

Operating a variety of kitchen appliances and instruments including bandsaws, mincers, knives, mixers, vacuum sealers, ovens and stoves.

Managing inventory, unloading supplies and organising storerooms and coolrooms.

Properly storing food items at appropriate temperatures

Ordering new ingredients as required

Properly handling food waste & packaging waste 



Requirements:

Physical demands: This position requires good physical stamina and involves constant moving including walking, talking, hearing, reaching, chopping, cutting and standing for at least three consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing ladders

This position involves working in refrigerated coolrooms and around wet flooring so adherence to health and safety is required at all times



It is an advantage if applicants have the following experience:

Experience in kitchen operations

Understanding of food health and safety regulations

Experience in various cooking techniques

Knowledge of food safety and hygiene protocols
